Sandcastle

Drawing of a beach with children building a sandcastle.
On a slow hot summer day
the beach called for me to come
to join with friends and neighbors
to lie out in the sun.

Building castles in the sand
We knew they'd never last.
Waiting for the waves to come
destroying it slow then fast.

We built it tall - we built it wide
we dug a moat around it.
Sometimes it fell down as we built
and sometimes the waves would drown it.

We laughed and maybe even cried.
We were tired. It was  time to go.
We made more than a castle that day.
We made a memory long ago.
