My mother the gem!

 The word for the day was "gem"  I wrote this:

                                                            My mother's initials
                                                                        GEM
                                    What is a gem? - "a precious or semi-precious stone
        especially when cut and polished."
                        cut and polished:
                                    the pain of losing her 8 year old child.
                                                the hardships of being a good southern wife
                                                        the struggles in day to day life.
                                                She was so kind and good to me
                                    She loved me through it all.
                        She learned to accept my clean-faced look
        my lack of spit and polish.

            my stubborn streak for social justice.

                        my giving up a kidney.

                                    She shone more brightly when I was near    

                                                    watching her shows on TV

                                                            Being there - sitting alongside her.

                            And so did I.
